SharePlex® Offloads Reporting

Many businesses face conflicting business needs: they need the fastest possible response time for performing transactions, yet effective and timely decision support and reporting is critical to remain competitive. Without SharePlex®, these two activities often slow the system to unacceptably low levels.

SharePlex solves this problem by providing a current, available target system that can be used for reporting. With SharePlex, transaction processing can continue at top speed, and reports can be run with fresh data during regular business hours. This horizontal scaling strategy is unique in that transaction processing no longer competes with reporting activity. Regardless of how much reporting is asked of the system, it will have no effect on response time for your customers and internal users.

The setup of the database is often different for reporting and transaction processing. Ideally, each would employ its own indexing schemes, partitioning of data and archiving of data. SharePlex will support different indexes on the transaction and reporting databases. Data can be consolidated on one and partitioned in another. Additionally, the combination of purging the transaction system with reporting providing an archive means the best possible response times for transactions while maintaining access to all of the data.

When a single replica does not provide the required scaling, additional replicas can be brought on line to further scale and increase performance of reports.
