What is the difference between Single Sign-on for Java’s Standard Edition, JBoss Edition, WebLogic Edition, and WebSphere Edition? 

  • Standard Edition is implemented as a Java servlet filter.  Standard Edition is the recommended edition regardless of the application server unless integration provided by another edition is required.
  • JBoss Edition integrates with JBoss Application Server using Tomcat Valves and JBoss Login Modules.
  • WebLogic Edition integrates with WebLogic Application Server using the Security Service Provider Interface (SSPI).
  • WebSphere Edition integrates with WebSphere Application Server using IBM’s Trust Association Interceptor (TAI) interface.

What Web browsers does Single Sign-on for Java support?

Single Sign-on for Java supports Web browsers that are compatible with Kerberos SPNEGO. Compatible browsers or Integrated Windows Authentication. Compatible browsers include Internet Explorer 5 and above; modern Mozilla-based Web browsers (Check to see if your Mozilla browser is compatible here); and various others such as Konqueror and Safari.

Single Sign-on for Java can also provide NTLM authentication, HTML form-based authentication, and HTTP Basic Authentication providing fallback support to virtually all Web browsers.

How do I manage access control with Single Sign-on for Java?

Single Sign-on for Java supports authorization of users using Active Directory groups. This allows the individual deploying the solution to specify which groups are allowed to access a given application at deployment time, and then manage membership of this group using Active Directory without redeploying the application.
